Natural Plant Oils vs The Other Stuff
Ok, I know I touched on this subject briefly in my last post but I thought it was a subject worth delving into a little deeper. There are many misconceptions out there about the use of natural plant oils and beauty products that I thought I’d try to clear things up a bit.
We all know that most ladies with oily or normal skin stear way clear of using any kind of oils on their skin for fear of ugly breakouts. Makes total sense right? Well did you know that most oils that totally gunk up your skin are mineral oils and animal fats? Mineral oil is a petroleum based product which is a liquid by-product of gasoline and petroleum based product production from crude oil and as far as animal fats, fats are rendered tissue fats and fats are a solid! Who wants that on their skin?
The Pore Cloggers
So, all that being said let me explain about natural plant oils, plant oils are typically lighter and more readily absorbed by the skin. But not all natural plant oils are skin friendly for our more breakout prone readers. It’s important to learn the right types of oil that can be used to help reduce clogged pores and acne. Here’s a list of some natural plant oils that may clog pores that you might want to be aware of:
Cotton Seed Oil
Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil
Wheat Germ Oil
Beneficial Natural Plant Oils
Don’t be discouraged! It still leaves a host of other more beneficial plant oils that are highly beneficial to your skin. All plant oils are rated 1-5 on their likeliness to clog pores or irritate skin. Everything on this list is a 2 or less so should cause no problems to sensitive skin.
Safflower Oil (high linoleic acid variety only*)
Wheat germ oil
If you find one doesn’t work for you, don’t stop there. This is not an all-inclusive list, switch types or mix two or three together. Find what works for you. Just to get you started here’s a nice cleansing oil recipe that I use. Living in Utah tends to dry my skin out terribly so this little recipe not only cleans off my makeup but leaves my skin very soft and moisturized.
